There really is no place like home. And I really can drive 900 miles by myself.
Connecticut is a land all its own, and so different from Indiana. I can feel the accent coming back when I say "coffee", fueled by two visits to Dunkin Donuts in one day. The Shell station is no longer Shell, but Irving, but the ever present donut shop stands next door. Things change - people change - but the
feel of the state stays the same. I can still run through a parking lot to see Dayna, and when we sit down to get pedicures, I could have sworn we were only here last week. My Stop and Shop card nestles with my Kroger card. Two different worlds shoved into one. That's what I feel like I'm living out right now, but I love it. I love being here, and able to call people who have known me for half my life, and making a visit to the emissions testing facility a party. I like knowing where everything is and how to find my way out of downtown Meriden and what the Dairy Queen railroad tracks are.
My feet still get cold in our basement, though. And I miss things about Indiana. Mostly the people. Especially one. ;)
